Onte 279: Paíño, o pichichi rebelde
Gustoume moito que as páxinas deportivas de Faro (sempre excelentes) sinalasen no pasamento de Manuel Fernández «Paíño» a súa condición de futbolista lector e rebelde. Efectivamente, o goleiro de San Paio de Navia, de quen nos falaba con saudades meu pai, pichichi que foi en primeira división co Celta (no 48) e co Madrid (no 52), sempre tivo que navegar a contracorrente pola súa condición de fillo de republicáns. A pesar de ser unha figura indiscutible, un home gol nato dunha afouteza temeraria, capaz de pelexar con aquelas defensas temibles, só puido participar na selección española en tres ocasións, xa que naqueles anos do medo foi identificado como o «futbolista rojo». Non foi convocado para participar no mundial de 1950, quizais por que non contaba coa certificación de «cojones y españolía» reclamadas polos responsables deportivos do réxime. Mesmo Arriba criticouno por ser lector dos novelistas rusos: «Que se puede esperar de un futbolista que lee a Tolstoi y a Dostoievski», preguntábase retoricamente o xornal de Falanxe. Paíño, un alcuño que facía referencia a máis cativa ave mariñeira, confesou nunha das súas últimas entrevistas, que como lector amaba a Ramón Cabanillas e Ernest Hemingwy, o que demostra as moi vellas relacións entre o mellor fútbol e a literatura. Upa, Paíño, grande!!!
